Shark Bay

Shark Bay is a huge expanse of water and the fishing options are countless. The protected waters of the bay are home to big numbers of pink snapper, as well as black snapper. There are countless bays and headlands around Monkey Mia and Denham , and indeed all around the bay, that will also produce tailor to big sizes, flathead and whiting. Some thumping yellowfin bream come from the bay and very big cobia are also a feature of Shark Bay, as are some good mulloway. Look for squid around weed banks.

To the west, Steep Point is a land-based game fishing mecca, offering incredible fishing for spanish and shark mackerel, tuna, cobia and even billfish. Ballooning is very popular at Steep Point. Night fishing can produce mulloway, pink snapper and cobia, while the western cliffs are good for baldchin groper and pink snapper. Dirk Hartog Island is another popular shore fishing location offering similar species to Steep Point, but you need to book to fish there.
